I. Development Foundation
Xiamen is a characteristic industrial base of biology and new medicine under the nation’s Torch Plan. The city’s biomedicine and health industry has nine development focuses, including innovative drugs, high-performance medical devices, high-value functional food, biological manufacturing and biological breeding, and emerging marine biotechnology. The biomedical industry has been included in the nation’s first batch of strategic emerging industrial clusters. In 2023, the output value totaled RMB 84.7 billion, with 1500-plus enterprises specialized in biomedicine and health. Xiamen boasts the world’s first hepatitis E vaccine, China’s first long-acting interferon – Peginterferon, the world’s third and China's first bivalent cervical cancer vaccine, and China’s first BNCT tumor treatment equipment. Representative enterprises include Innovax Biotech, Amoytop Biotech, Double Medical, InTech Products, Kingdomway, AmoyDx, LP Pharma, DS Biotech, Zeesan Biotech, HITECK, KingMed Diagnostics, Hybribio Medical Laboratory, and Neuboron.
II. Development Priorities
1. Innovative drugs and high-End preparations: New vaccines, protein and peptide drugs, antibody drugs and micro-ecological preparations and other biological products, innovative small molecule drugs, small nucleic acid drugs, targeted drugs, and improved new drugs.
2. Medical equipment: Immuno-diagnosis, molecular diagnosis, POCT and other in-vitro diagnostic reagents and core raw materials, as well as new-generation fully automated diagnostic equipment; various types of artificial organs, cardiovascular and orthopedic consumables, medical imaging equipment, tumor treatment equipment, and other high-end medical devices; telemedicine equipment, intelligent medical systems, and health equipment.
3. Cutting-edge biomedical technology: Biomedical AI, cutting-edge life-science cross-fertilization technology, tumor immunotherapy, cell therapy, gene therapy, and other cutting-edge biological treatment technology.
4. Biomedical industry services: Professional medical testing laboratories, medical imaging diagnosis centers, pathology diagnosis centers, and other third-party testing services and biomedical CXO service enterprises.
5. Emerging marine biotechnology, high-value functional food and cosmetics, health services, bio-manufacturing, and bio-breeding.
