Overview of Xiamen Siming District
The district of Siming is the economic, political, cultural, and financial center of the city of Xiamen. It is located in the southern part of the city and it includes the entirety of Gulangyu. It is surrounded by the sea on three sides and faces both Lesser Kinmen Island and the city of Zhangzhou across the sea.
Siming covers 84 square kilometers and has a permanent population of 1.07 million people. The district boasts beautiful scenery and a profound cultural heritage. It features a green coverage rate of 52 percent and an annual air quality rate of over 99 percent. It has earned the National Ecological Civilization Construction Demonstration Zone title and is among the first batch of Education Advanced Zones in Fujian.
The jurisdiction includes natural and cultural landscapes such as Gulangyu, a world cultural heritage site, and Hulishan Fortress. It boasts distinguished educational and research institutions such as Xiamen University and the Third Institute of Oceanography.
The district's per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents and the main evaluation indicators of its population health are on par with that of medium and high-level of developed countries. In 2024, the district's regional GDP grew by 5.5 percent. The total fiscal revenue reached 41.7 billion yuan, up 1.8 percent year-on-year. The completed fixed-asset investment amounted to 41.9 billion yuan, up 3.7 percent year-on-year. The annual energy conservation and emission reduction targets were successfully fulfilled.
